Seaworld have been killing wild beluga whales.
SeaWorld have been getting hunters to kill endangered wild male beluga whales so they can acquire their sperm to AI their female whales back at the park, so they can expand the captive beluga gene pool And more…….  Next time a pro cap says that they support SeaWorld because they don’t catch animals from the wild anymore - show them this. The truth is that SW don’t need to...

A Wolphin has died shortly after birth... →
orcasoutside: The mother, Yang Yang, took an hour to give birth. She was unable to push the calf to the surface for its first breath and left it at the bottom of the pool. A trainer dived into the water immediately to save the calf, but Yang Yang instinctively bit the trainer. The calf eventually drowned. Poor Yang Yang. There seem to be a lot of hybrid cetaceans in captivity, especially in...

Judge reduces verdict from “willful” negligence to “serious” with safety abatements maintained”. Because of the reduced verdict, the fine has also dropped from $75’000 to $12’000. The safety protocols calling for a physical barrier between whale and trainer will be upheld.

OSHA WINS!!!!!!!!!
“Violation reduced against SeaWorld but safety abatements upheld in killer whale pools - more details to follow Statement from the U.S. Department of Labor: OSHA’s intent has been to ensure the safety and health of employees who work with SeaWorld’s killer whales in performances. In his decision, the Judge has upheld the OSHA citations. That is a win for the employees of SeaWorld, because...

Dolphin living in Louisiana canal attacks... →
caong: theoceanisourhome: And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why you don’t feed wild dolphins. I think a big part of the problem is that humans see dolphins as cuddly, friendly creatures that love us and want to be with us. We seem to forget that these animals are actually powerful predators that are on the same or higher trophic level as sharks. It’s kind of a bizarre mix of the media and...

marinelandanimaldefense: “I’m writing to you to express a concern that has come to my attention after spending a day at Marineland in Niagara Falls today. I hope there have been other people who have spoken up as well about Marineland. I have  ond memories going there as a child, so I decided to visit it again while on a visit to the Falls this week. However, the excitement was soon replaced by...

A comment on SeaWorld’s Facebook page about Sully’s death -  “he had severe sunburn which got worse and worse,… described it as 2nd to 3rd degree burns”.

Seaworld San Diego’s pilot whale Sully has died . EDIT - Via Cetabase -  ”the death of Sully has been confirmed through SeaWorld’s Animal Ambassdor, Julie Scardina. The following quote was posted on her Twitter account: “Yes Connor, we are very sad. He had some health issues even after rescue- but he loved his time w/ our other pilot whales!”

SeaWorld’s Takara No Longer Considered Pregnant →
teamorkid: First of all, I absolutely loved this: “At the risk of over-exciting all my skeptics, who think I pull SeaWorld orca pregnancies out of my ass” But I’m shocked that Takara barely miscarried/had a false pregnancy and they are already planning to AI her again. Gosh, can’t SW give this poor creature a break? I already said it and I repeat, she will be another Taima if they keep...

Proof that Keiko fed himself successfully in the...
“FOR KEIKO TO SUSTAIN HIS WEIGHT AND CONDITION DURING THIS PERIOD OF EXTENSIVE ACTIVITY, IT IS MY VIEW THAT HE WOULD NEED TO HAVE MAINTAINED A FOOD LEVEL OF AN AVERAGE OF 125-150LBS OF FISH PER DAY. OVER THIS 56-DAY PERIOD, MY ASSESSMENT IS THAT IF HE WERE NOT ABLE TO FEED ON HIS OWN, I WOULD HAVE EXPECTED TO SEE SIGNIFICANT, EASILY OBSERVABLE, AND POTENTIALLY CATASTROPHIC WEIGHT LOSS. IT...

“A scuba diver who was hit by a boat and knocked unconscious survived 56 hours in the water, apparently being watched over by dolphins. Matthew Harvey went diving alone in the frigid waters of Fermain Bay, off the Channel Islands (between England and France) and when he failed to return home, his family reported him missing. An air and sea search was conducted but was called off. Then, after...

Whale meat in Japan remains unsold.
“The auction took place every month from November 2011 and ended as planned in March 2012. There were five auctions for sei whale, and four for minke and Bryde’s whale meat; separately for those who are in the industry (the intermediate wholesalers) and the general public. The auctions sold a mere 303.1 tons. Three-quarters of the available meat, 908.8 tons, is left unsold”. ...

bondedwiththesea: On Tilikum’s SW Profile, the section titled: “Finds Aversive” (AKA Finds Annoying) Reads this for him: Prolonged access to other whales (Contrary to popular belief, Tilly does NOT enjoy the company of other whales!) Thats because there are no other whales at SWF who he gets along with. Katina will get aggressive with anyone who socializes with him. He’s probably learned...

Care Of Magical Creatures:... →
So I actually talked to one of the older educators once who explained So a biased source who has a vested interest in making you believe what they want you too but ok….. that one of the trainers said Kalia had been angry because she was trying to get one of the other whales to play and when they wouldn’t she started throwing a Kalia sized fit. It wasn’t Kalia’s first time “away” from...

Kasatka has always been a very overprotective mother. No, it was not smart of SeaWorld to separate them, but mistakes are made and bad things happen. Nobody was killed, and now they know that Kasatka must ALWAYS perform with at least 1 of her children at all times. Waterworks were stopped with her after that as well.  It says in her profile that they started training her for water works again...

Here is the OSHA report on the attack by Kasatka on trainer Ken Peters, if you want to read it.  http://www.orcanetwork.org/captivity/070302seaworldreport.pdf Note that the cause of the attack was the trainers separating Kasatka from her calf Kalia, so that tourists could see her mother jump up and down for a few minutes for their entertainment. does that make you feel “pro cap and...

Today is the ten year anniversary of Shouka’s move from Marineland France to Six Flags in California.  Ten years since she has seen another whale.  Ten years since she has seen her family. If you haven’t already signed the petition to get Shouka some companionship, please do. Even if you are a pro cap, if you care about these animals, you should care that she is kept in terrible...

“The team considered a necropsy, but decided against it. Had Keiko died in the United States, in a facility where the procedure could be performed efficiently and discreetly, a necropsy might have revealed renal shutdown or some other proximate cause of death. But Keiko had died in the fjords of rural Norway. ‘Necropsy had real limitations where we were’ Says David Phillips...

Finally.....
In the next couple of weeks Judge Ken S. Welsch will be ruling on the case between OHSA and SeaWorld. He will either uphold the “willful” neglect, or reduce the citation. This decision, if upheld, will impact on SeaWorld’s plans to put trainers back into the water (even though that’s not what the case was about), as well as open the company up to potential civil...

It's official - Tom and Misha are free.
“We could hardly believe it. All the months of planning by our dedicated team, all the time, the money, the effort. As we prepared to lift the gate I know we were all asking the same question: would Tom and Misha take their chance of freedom? We should never have doubted! They looked. They paused and then they seemed to leap for joy as the barriers were finally removed; this was all the...

It’s crucial to their training.” -  Comment from a pro cap on a forum.  Proof that SeaWorld care more about putting on a show than the animals welfare.

Judge dismisses case to free Lolita.
“The judge dismissed the case on a technicality. This gets complicated, but the judge never mentioned the actual complaint (that Lolita should not have been excluded from the ESA listing of So. Residents in 2005) in his ruling.  In the judge’s ruling he conflated two letters when he claimed the 60-day notice requirement had been violated. APA (Administrative Procedure Act) complaint,...
