”Dolphins are constantly in motion when they are mating, socializing, playing, etc. Do you really believe that if a dolphin in the ocean were given food, it would no longer have a need to travel but would be content living the rest of its life in a tiny cage? With the whole ocean to explore and a brain capable of comprehending and retaining vast amounts of information, perceptions, even...
A Grand Passion: SeaWorld Sells Seafood →
agrandpassion:
This is the second post in my series of instances in which SeaWorld has went against conservation efforts.
SeaWorld is a park that is filled with award winning restaurants serving a wide variety of dishes. From hotdogs to lobster bisque. From fillet mignon to chicken nuggets. As a corporation…

Okay, I repsect anti-caps and I would never trash them in public. This is because they are fully entitled to their opinions and they are free to believe in anything they want. However, I have been seeing a series a post regarding a commentary I did on one of FreedomforOrcas’s videos which was all…

If the Japanese whaling fleet is killing whales for research, why do they need to kill over a thousand whales each year?
Explain that.
Why hunt over 900 minke, 50 humpback, and 50 fin just for research. Let me add, fin whales are endangered. So every year there are 50 unnecessary killings of a beautiful and gentle creature that is soon going...

Wild Male orca ages
Here are the ages of some wild male killer whales. To the best of our knowledge All of them are still alive.
Many other orca populations around the world are being studied, with some whales being seen regularly since the 80’s, yet no official age for them have been released yet.
I know a lot of people think that wild males tend to drop dead at 30.
Southern residents –
L41 – 35 years...
Cetacean Inspiration: Captivity is Inspiring and... →
cetaceaninspiration:
I’ve heard a lot of pro-caps claiming that captivity is justified because it “inspires” and “educates” people to care about animals and conserve them. This is pretty much the one and ONLY excuse that is brought forth to justify captivity of sentient beings. For the record, I did not make this anonymous question to bondedwiththesea, but I think it is a good question. Is there...
Regarding the captive orca genepool. →
caong:
There are a few orca who aren’t related to anyone else, but realistically only two are likely to contribute to the genepool.
Kshamenkis not related to any captive orca currently, although this is set to change later this year/early next year.
Corkyis infertile, all her calves have died.
Lolitais never going to breed, unless she is AI’ed. However, the chances of any calves surviving in...

Freedom is priceless.: Dolphin Hearing Range →
freedomfororcas:
Decided to post this since some people are still using this argument. A lot of people still think that dolphins can’t hear human voices because their hearing range doesn’t cover the human voice’s frequency. This is false.
Type II cochlea are found primarily in offshore and open water species of whales, such as the bottlenose dolphin. The sounds produced by bottlenose dolphins...

Interview with Death at SeaWorld author.
During the OSHA trial, which David Kerby attended, the 2006 attack by Kasatka on trainer Ken Peters was heavily discussed and never before seen footage was shown.
Here is an excerpt from an interview with Kerby where he describes some of the video-
“The employees throw the nets in that are supposed to separate the trainer from the whale, and signal the whale to calm down, just stop and go...

Anonymous asked: Have you considered the fact that at many accredited zoos and aquariums (including Sea World), enrichment, excellent veterinary care, personalized attention, and training for husbandry purposes (the animals participating in their own health care), offer cetaceans (and many other marine mammals) incredible quality of life?

Cause of baby belugas death is revealed.
”A baby beluga whale rescued in Alaska’s Bristol Bay last month had multiple infections, according to necropsy results announced Wednesday.
“On postmortem exam we found that the beluga whale had infections in multiple sites, including his heart and lungs,”
The calf had some gastrointestinal problems, and caregivers said the whale’s immune system wasn’t...
“Killer whale captivity is a morally bankrupt franchise based on making money off of the enslavement and subsequent mental and physical torture of intelligent creatures”.

As a result of the study of Alzheimer’s disease in people, human spindle neurons have been found to be associated with the ability to recognize, remember, reason, communicate, percieve, adapt to change, problem solve and understand.
These special neurons have been isolated in the brains of cetaceans. The concentration has been measured to be three times higher in cetaceans in...
