killerwhalenews: Yesterday, A30 (Tsitika), A50 (Clio), A54 (Blinkhorn), A38 (Blackney), A39 (Pointer) and some calves, were seen playing, interacting and swimming with a pod of Pacific White Sided dolphins. The game ended when the dolphins broke away to bow ride a whale watching boat, and the whales left the area to go hunting.    Awww….

scetaceans: Nothing much to say about yesterday. Everything seemed fine, but I do have a few nitpicks: Underwater Viewing I’m not sure if all of you have seen it, but it’s been refurbished to remove the rock siding; in addition they’ve installed a self-rising floor (seen in the photos). I walked down there at about 12:30, and the first words out of my mouth were, “oh god, this looks like a...

Update from Save Misty the Dolphin
discover-cetaceans: “We have made some progress” in Taiji, said O’Barry. “The number of dolphins being killed in Taiji have gone down for the past four years of our Save Japan Dolphins Campaign,” he noted. Meanwhile, the activist continued, “Japanese people, being warned about mercury and other contaminants in dolphin and whale meat, are buying less and less of it.”

The hypocrisy of pro caps
I have been disheartened to read some of the comments made by pro caps since Shouka’s arrival at SeaWorld San Diego from Six Flags. Some pro caps have been vitriolic in their attitudes towards anti caps. With hate and bile spewed towards us all day for being “hypocrites”, for seemingly being happy with the move and supporting captivity.  Need I remind everyone that it was two...

Update from Wendy.-  “UPDATE ON SHOUKA: Just got off the phone with CBS8 in San Diego. David Koontz from SeaWorld has stated that Shouka is with Corky and they are getting along. This is the first time in 10 years Shouka has been with another orca”. I’m glad Shouka seems to be doing well so far. Of course the best place for orcas is the ocean, but that was never an option for...

This is the least disruptive thing for the Orcas that could be done”  I wouldn’t support another whale being sent to SF. Their facilities are appalling. They have been in trouble...

Bad news..
Southern Resident killer whale K40 (Raggedy), has not been seen in the last two encounters with K pod. The 49 year old sister of K21 (Cappuccino), has never been seen with a calf of her own. Chances are slim, but lets hope she turns up soon.

John and Jeff had previously discussed Gudrun’s pregnancy since she had begun to eat less food in the final weeks of gestation. They were also concerned about the health of the fetus.  With the completion of G pool, SeaWorld had figured out a way to use Gudrun to generate new revenue streams. As one of its rare adult orcas whose dorsal fin had not bent over or collapsed, she was perfect to...
