A new FB page by the makers of the SWG website that plans to track the habits and movements of Northern Resident orcas.
Hugo’s necropsy (animal autopsy) report is now available to read online. It doesn’t go into much detail. It basically says ‘well we think he died from an aneurysm but we’re not sure’.
Possibly one of my favorite orca pictures of all time.
This is a Russian Orca, I can’t remember its name but the photo is by T Ivanovoich.

Via; The Southern Resident Killer Whales who have passed on -
”A dead orca in an advanced state of decomposition was reported to DFO on Sunday, April 14, 2013. It was found near Carmanah Point, Vancouver Island. The sex could not be determined, and it will take DNA analysis to determine its population identity… please don’t be another Southern Resident orca :(”
Orcas seal hunting in Argentina. The orcas took 6 or 7 pups in about an hour, but they ate only 3 of them. They took the others away from the beach, encircled them, apparently used them to train the young ones in the tactics of pursuit, and then let the pups swim back to shore. Unlike the evening before, there was no pup-flipping, so perhaps this was a serious training session.
Female white Orca or a much younger Iceberg? I can’t find anything on this picture, like an article or anything, so I guess it’ll be pretty hard to find out for sure… Either way, he/she is a looker.
Here is the article: http://urbantimes.co/2012/05/iceberg-the-white-orca-the-only-one-of-his-kind/female-white-orca/
what a gorgeous lady ;___;
No, it’s not Iceberg as this is a recent photo.
According to Russian Orcas Facebook page (where this photo was originally posted) it’s one of the several white orcas that live around Russia’s Commander Islands and is either a female or young male as they’re not sure of the sex and it doesn’t have a name yet.

Ex SeaWorld trainers John Jett and Jeff Ventre have written an excellent peer-reviewed scientific paper about the dangers of viruses that are transmitted to captive orca by mosquitoes.
And my favourite Southern Resident: the character that is Cappuccino.
He’s just perfectly handsome and cute and loveable.
Look at that great saddle!
He’s gorgeous. I know a few people who have adopted him.
In light of this post regarding captive orca fanfiction (and my original response here), someone suggested that I share the comic he did for the Free Morgan Foundation:
This broke my heart :’(
This idea was brought up at the Cetacean Spirit forum that Gwen/Freedomfororcas runs. Art For Orca is a place where orca lovers and artists can come to view and showcase art for purchase to benefit various orca related projects and organizations such as Killer Whale ID Catalogue and the Orca Research Trust. I’m just getting these pages set up so don’t mind the sparseness of the pages. Please submit things!
Enjoy!
