This is the pen at Taiji where three wild caught Risso’s dolphins are being held so they can participate in a ‘swim-with’ dolphin interaction program.
The dolphins are “let out” into the cove for 15 minutes, twice a day.
This is in the SAME bay where the infamous dolphin slaughters are held every year. The same bay in which the dolphins saw their families brutally killed.
The slaughter will begin again next month and the Risso’s will be shipped to the Taiji Whale Museum. When the killing season is over they will return to the pen again.
Most tourists have no idea that they and their children are swimming in a place that turns red with blood for 8 months of the year. They don’t realize that the dolphins were captured in such a brutal and inhumane manner.
This is just another way for the town to exploit dolphins and another atrocity to add to the list of crimes against dolphins being committed in Taiji, Japan.
